Traction / stability light: what it means and what to do

Not urgent
SAFETY FIRST

Flashing means the road is slippery: ease off the gas and slow down.

What it means

Blinking: the car is helping you on a slippery road (normal). Staying on: the system is off or has a problem.

Is it safe to drive?

Usually not urgent, but do not ignore it.

What to do

  1. If blinking, slow down
  2. If it stays on, see if the system was turned off; get it checked if not

General help, not a diagnosis. Every car is a little different: your owner’s manual has the exact meaning of each light, and a mechanic can tell you for sure. Costs in the app are rough estimates. Check for open recalls with your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls (repairs for recalls are free at the dealer).
