1. Who we are
Carvessa (“we”, “us”) is an app that helps people find a car that fits their life and budget. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
2. What stays on your phone
You can use Carvessa as a guest. Your coach answers (like your budget, ZIP code and the car you drive now), your saved cars, your look (White or Midnight) and the recalls you have seen are kept on your phone only. We do not get them.
3. What we collect when you join or sign up
Account: your email and the first name you give us. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email with us. Your password is stored in a scrambled form by our account provider. We never see it.
Reviews: what you write, your star rating and your tags. Reviews are public and show your first name only.
Votes and reports: when you mark a review “helpful” or report it.
Saved cars: members’ saved cars (make, model and year) are copied to our server so we can check them for recalls.
Phone alerts: if you turn on recall alerts, we keep a code for your phone so we can send the alert. We do not get your phone number.
Email list: if you join the list on our website (carvessa.app), we keep only your email, to tell you when the app is ready and about big news. To be taken off the list, reply to any email or write to us.
4. How we use it
To run your account, show your reviews, check your saved cars for recalls and send the alerts you asked for. To keep Carvessa safe, for example by hiding reviews that get reported. We do not use your info to decide if you can get a loan, and we never check your credit.
5. Who we share with
We never sell your info.
Service providers that run Carvessa for us: Supabase (accounts and data storage), Expo (sending phone alerts) and Google (only if you sign in with Google). They may only use your info to provide their service to us.
Public car and map data: to show weather and nearby dealers we send your ZIP code (not your name) to Zippopotam.us, OpenStreetMap and the U.S. National Weather Service. To show recalls, safety ratings and gas mileage we send a car’s make, model and year to NHTSA and the EPA.
Dealers: only when you ask, for example when you tap “Book a test drive” or “Contact the dealer”. We will show you what we will send before we send it.
The law: if we must by law, or to protect people from harm.
6. Ads and dealer links
Carvessa is free. To keep it free we may show ads and links to dealers and car services. They are always labeled “Ad” or “Sponsored”. We may get paid when you tap a link, visit a dealer or book a test drive.
Today we do not use ads that follow you across other apps and websites. If we ever do, we will ask you first.
Other websites have their own privacy rules. Check them before you share info there.
7. Location
We never track where you are. We only use the ZIP code you type in, and only for weather and nearby dealers.
8. Your choices
Turn recall alerts off any time in Me. Delete any review you wrote. Delete your account any time in Me › Delete my account. This removes your account, reviews, votes, saved cars on our server and phone alerts.
You can also email us to get a copy of your info or to ask us to fix or delete it. We answer within 30 days.
9. How long we keep it
We keep your info while you have an account. When you delete your account we delete it right away. Copies in our providers’ backups are removed on their normal schedule.
10. Kids
Carvessa is not made for children under 13, and they may not make an account. If you think a child gave us info, email us and we will delete it.
11. Keeping it safe
We use secure connections and security rules so members can only change their own info. No app is 100% safe, so use a password you do not use anywhere else.
12. Changes
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If the change is big, we will tell you in the app first.
